Dobot

Dobot did not start as a humanoid startup — it spent a decade becoming China's top collaborative-robot shipper, then listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and launched Atom at roughly $27,500. Real manufacturing scale; not a home robot for US or UK buyers yet.

OUR TAKE

The public cobot company that priced a full-size humanoid like a car

Shenzhen Dobot Corp Ltd (Dobot) was founded in July 2015 by Liu Peichao (chairman and CEO) and Lang Xulin. The company broke out on Kickstarter with a desktop robotic arm, then scaled into one of China's largest collaborative-robot manufacturers — shipping globally across industrial, education, and research markets long before it entered humanoids.

In December 2024, Dobot became the first Chinese cobot maker to go public, listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (2432) and raising roughly HK$681 million (~$87 million). At IPO, the company already derived a significant share of revenue from outside China — a rare export profile among Chinese robotics firms. Its 2025 annual results describe a strategic pivot from "leader of cobots" to a "multimodal embodied AI platform" spanning robotic arms, humanoids, and multi-legged robots.

Atom is Dobot's flagship biped. Unveiled in March 2025 and priced at ¥199,000 (~$27,500), Dobot marketed it as the world's first humanoid combining dexterous five-finger hands with a straight-knee walking gait — claiming 42% lower locomotion energy use versus bent-knee bipeds. Official specs include roughly 1.53–1.65 m height, ~62 kg weight, up to 41 degrees of freedom on Atom Max configurations, ±0.05 mm arm repeatability, 1.5 m/s walking speed, and 1,500 TOPS edge compute running ROM-1 (Robot Operator Model-1). Mass production was targeted for mid-2025.

Dobot joined NVIDIA's Physics-AI Global Ecosystem in March 2025 and expanded its embodied portfolio in 2025 with Atom-W (wheeled humanoid), Rover X1 (quadruped), and Hexplorer (hexapod) — positioning Atom within a broader "Super Factory" multi-robot workflow strategy. Pilot deployments span Chinese automotive plants, electronics factories, and commercial service settings (coffee, hospitality demos). Dobot also sells smaller Atom D configurations for education and data collection.

For a robixone buyer: Dobot brings real manufacturing credibility and disruptive official pricing versus six-figure humanoids — but Atom targets industrial and service pilots, not residential households. Western buyers should expect China-first rollout, enterprise procurement channels, and limited home support infrastructure despite Dobot's global cobot distribution network.

Dobot Atom

Dobot Atom

A veteran of China’s consumer and education robotics market, Shenzhen’s Dobot has long built desktop robotic arms, education robotics, and consumer robotics deployments. The Dobot Atom is Dobot’s “premier” humanoid platform, a consumer and education robot designed with the consumer commercial stances that inform Dobot’s long history of robotic desktop deployment. Is this the kind of consumer robot we can usefully take seriously in the consumer and education markets, or will the robot’s compact design make it unappealing?

REAL OWNER SENTIMENT

What owners say about Dobot

Dobot Atom discussion splits between admiration for a listed manufacturer entering humanoids at ~$27K official list price — and skepticism that cobot scale automatically translates to reliable bipedal deployment in Western homes.

REDDIT Mar 2025

“A HK-listed cobot company shipping humanoids at $27K is a different animal than a demo startup. Whether Atom works outside Chinese factory pilots is the open question.”

“Straight-knee gait plus ±0.05 mm arm repeatability is the interesting engineering bet — not the breakfast demo video. Dobot knows precision manipulation from a decade of arms.”

@factory_automation

“Atom's price point is genuinely disruptive for full-size bipeds. Home buyers shouldn't confuse pre-order hype with US service coverage — this is industrial-first.”

PRICING VS ACCESS
WILL THE COMPANY BE AROUND IN 5 YEARS?

Dobot business stability

Dobot is among the most financially established humanoid entrants because it was already a public industrial-robotics company before Atom launched. HKEX listing (Dec 2024), global cobot shipment leadership claims in 2025 annual results, and in-house component development (Neural Drive System, ROM-1) give Dobot manufacturing depth that pure-play humanoid startups lack.

Leadership continuity runs through Liu Peichao's long tenure as chairman and CEO. The company's Kickstarter-to-IPO arc demonstrates product commercialization discipline — though humanoid revenue remains a newer line atop a cobot base. 2025 results emphasize embodied-AI robot deployments in automotive, commercial service, and education, with multi-form-factor expansion (Atom, Atom-W, quadruped, hexapod).

Risks for buyers mirror any China-first industrial humanoid: Western residential service is unproven, configuration variants (Atom D vs Atom Max) create spec confusion, and public-company disclosure is stronger on group strategy than on per-unit home availability.

HOW DOBOT HANDLES YOUR DATA

Dobot privacy and data approach

Dobot Atom carries stereo vision, Intel RealSense depth sensing, and optional 360° lidar on some configurations — plus microphones and connectivity for industrial and service deployments. Data handling runs under enterprise and research contracts in China and export markets, not consumer smart-home terms.

ROM-1 and Dobot's embodied-AI stack process visual and manipulation data on 1,500 TOPS edge compute modules. Cloud training and fleet data policies depend on each customer's deployment — there is no published Western consumer privacy policy because Atom is not sold as a home appliance.

For US or UK household buyers, Dobot privacy evaluation is premature: Atom is an industrial/service humanoid platform. Privacy questions matter for factory and hospitality pilots, not apartment owners.

WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG

Where you can get a Dobot serviced

Dobot supports customers through its Shenzhen headquarters and established global cobot distributor network — Malaysia and Japan subsidiaries opened in 2025. Atom humanoid service runs through the same industrial sales channels; Western residential support is limited as of mid-2026.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions about Dobot

Is Dobot a real, legitimate company?
Yes. Dobot was founded in July 2015 in Shenzhen and is publicly listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (2432) since December 2024. It is a established collaborative-robot manufacturer that launched the Atom humanoid in March 2025.
What is the Dobot Atom?
Atom is Dobot's full-size bipedal humanoid with straight-knee gait, dexterous five-finger hands, ±0.05 mm arm repeatability, and ROM-1 embodied-AI stack. Official pre-order pricing was ¥199,000 (~$27,500) at launch.
Can I buy a Dobot Atom for home use?
No. Atom targets industrial manufacturing, automotive pilots, and commercial service deployments — not residential households. US and UK home buyers should not expect consumer availability or home service support.
How is Dobot different from humanoid startups?
Dobot was already a public cobot manufacturer with global shipments before entering bipedal humanoids. That gives it manufacturing scale and supply-chain control many startups lack — though humanoid deployment is still early relative to its arm business.
What other robots does Dobot make?
Beyond Atom, Dobot's 2025 embodied-AI portfolio includes Atom-W (wheeled humanoid), Rover X1 (quadruped), Hexplorer (hexapod), and Atom D (smaller education/data-collection configurations), plus its core collaborative robotic arms.
Is Dobot Atom available in the US or UK?
Dobot sells cobots globally, but Atom humanoid availability is primarily through Chinese industrial and pilot channels as of mid-2026. Verify local service and import support before procuring.
